Reduce Your VOCs by Using Natural Cleaning Products

Harsh cleaning chemicals can wreak havoc on the indoor air quality in your Van Alstyne, Texas, home. Luckily, there are a few natural household products you can clean your home with without releasing damaging volatile organic compounds into the air. Here are three of them:

Vinegar

A mixture of vinegar and water can provide the same cleaning power as a traditional blue window cleaner. It’ll also provide a streak-free finish. You can also use a vinegar solution to replace traditional disinfectants and floor cleaners. Simply place citrus peels in undiluted white vinegar and let them soak for at least two days. As a result, you’ll have a lemony fresh cleaning solution.

You can also use vinegar to remove scale from your dishwasher. Fill a Pyrex or casserole dish with vinegar. Set the bowl in an empty dishwasher, and run it on the hot cycle.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is known for its natural scrubbing abilities while being gentle on delicate surfaces. You can use baking soda to make a paste to clean ovens or cooktops. Simply coat with the paste, making gentle circles when applying, allow it to sit for an hour, and wipe it off.

You can also use three parts baking soda and one part water to make grout cleaner. Scrub it on the tile with a toothbrush, and gently wipe clean with a sponge.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is a great tool when you have stubborn dirt or debris that require extra scrubbing power. Simply mix the salt with a little lemon juice, and scrub to make your pots and pans clean and fresh smelling. A sea salt solution mixed with hot water can also be a great way to clean grease from the drain and remove any odors.
