Ductless AC: What Is It, and How Does It Work?
A man is smiling while holding the remote control.

While ductless air conditioning isn’t new, modern systems are a significant upgrade from the old clunky models most people know. Ductless AC systems are a great option for providing extra climate control flexibility for your North Collin, Texas, home. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you need to know:

What are Ductless AC Systems?

As their name suggest, ductless systems are climate control solutions that work without ductwork. A professional can install them anywhere in a home that has access to an outside wall. They usually mount them higher toward the ceiling to ensure good air circulation. Quiet and discreet, ductless systems aren’t disruptive or conspicuous.

How Do Ductless AC Systems Work?

Ductless systems have two main components located inside the home and on the exterior wall. The outside portion is the compressor, which connects to the indoor portion through a very small hole in the wall. The limited construction required is one of the perks of these systems. They do very little damage to the house when installing.

The indoor unit takes in hot air from your home and blows it over the cold evaporator coils, cooling it. The coils then take the heat and run it outside where it dissipates. One outdoor unit can connect to several indoor units to create a network. As a result, you can create multiple zones.

Where Ductless AC Systems Work Best?

Ductless AC systems aren’t typically designed as whole-home solutions. That said, they work great in home additions when owners don’t want to extend their current central system or in rooms that don’t get enough circulation. They’re also ideal for historic homes that weren’t built to include or accommodate central air conditioner.
